Baby Brice finally makes his grand entrance

Our son, John Cameron Brice, arrived at 00:11am on Friday 9th June at High Wycombe general hospital. He arrive 2 weeks late, weighing in a hefty 10lb 1oz. Here are the gory details, in case you are interested.

We had struggled to come up with a shortlist of boys names. "John" was the only one we would both agree on. Its a good sturdy British name and won't sound pretentious when shouted across a playground. The most popular name when I was a child, its not even in the top 50 most popular names now. I just liked the sound of "Cameron" - we'll gloss over its association with the current Tory leader (he'll probably be gone in a year) and its meaning ('bent nose'). The initials JCB seem appropriate enough given his birth weight.

A very relieved father with Claire and baby after the emergency caesarean. I was there throughout.

John still looking a bit blue.

Ahhhh!

The closest Claire could get to a cuddle for a day or two.

Note the sheep theme (he is half Kiwi after all).

A proud (and slightly shell-shocked) Dad.

We were in the middle of a heat-wave and there was no aircon on the maternity ward.

John has got a girlfriend! (John with Karen and Ian's baby, Isabel)

Claire was in the hospital until Monday evening. The UK was in the middle of a heat-wave and there was no air conditioning, so it was pretty uncomfortable. Thank god for the electric fans. By good fortune Karen from our NCT class ended up in the next bed. It was  nice to know that Karen and her husband Ian were keeping an eye on John when I took Claire for a shower. Claire and Karen were also able to give each other some moral support when Ian and I weren't there.  I would like to say a huge thank you to the NCT. The classes gave us a much better idea of what was happening than we would have had otherwise (thanks Jane!). Having the support of the other people in the group has also been fantastic.

At home.

John in his boy racer 'wheels' (NZ made, of course).

PS/ We have decided not to have any visitors for the first week at home - we've got our hands full learning to be parents and sorting out child benefit, birth certificate and a 1000 other things.
